Saturday, April 17, 2010 @ 7pm: At The Sock Hop – Danny Brito Solo Show at Pink Ghost

Artist Danny Brito creates a vintage art space taking you back to the 50’s. Check out his new work inspired by a blend of kitschy, retro and 50s.

This is the flyer for my show in April, It’s going to be really great. I’m transforming the Pink Ghost gallery into a 1950’s living room. I plan on have tons of work in varying sizes and really, really affordable prices. Hope everyone can make it!!

She wanted a really specific polaroid and i was more than happy to do it. She wanted her and her boyfriend with bear ears and a bow on her bear ears. Also their cat poking out. I think it came out really cute.

Penny Mae!

Say hello to Penny Mae, she’s a collaborative project between myself and Neil Rook, we both worked together on her look and he has been cleaning her up in Illustrator. What I did was draw her out on a piece of paper and then scanned her into my computer, Neil then traced over her in illustrator.

She’s has her own blog that she’ll be updating with outfits, things that inspire her, and the cutest internet finds. She’ll start wearing designer outfits as time goes on and she’ll be posting about her favorite artists and musicians as well. She’s basically Neil and I mashed up together into one cute character.

Make sure to bookmark it because she’ll be updating regularly!

The Polaroid Project got it self a proper website, I had just thrown the previous one together. This one is a little more pleasing to the eye thanks to Neil J Rook!

Kerry Polaroid

This is a polaroid for Kerry Ball. She wanted one of her and her boyfriend. I’ve known kerry for a few years now and I feel like I got them down pretty well, I added her tattoos, her key necklace, and colored their clothes green, which is kerry’s favorite color. She also just happens to be a wonderful photographer and specializes in Polaroids, So this project was basically made for her.

Two more polaroids for the Polaroid Project, I had a lot of fun with these two. The first one was for Sarah, she wanted a portrait of her and her lovely cats. I don’t usually draw animals but I think i’m going to start, the cats just came out so cute if i do say so myself. I used to draw a lot of monsters as well, I need to get back on that but that’s another story.

The second polaroid is for Emily and she wanted something to do with Abraham Lincoln, so I kind of pushed her portrait down a little so it can show the height of the top hat, and I went ahead and put her in a kind of girly suit. When it came time for the background, i had to make it patriotic!

I’ve got one more polaroid to do, which I’ll probably do this afternoon and post tomorrow morning. If you want one for yourself, go to the Polaroid Project page and get one! It’s simple, use the buy it now button to pay for it, then shoot me an email with what you want and a photo reference :D

5.5″ x 16″ colored pencil on paper.
First piece for my solo show at Pink Ghost, “At The Sock Hop.”

I did this piece a while ago but never photographed it, I’m finally prepping the frame for it though so I figured I’d get some close ups of it before I frame it. The frame is a long vintage frame that I’m going to paint and it has a brass hook at the top that it hangs from. I loveeee frames that have ornamental hooks to hang it from.

My solo show is going to be completely made up of vintage frames and thrift store finds, I’ve got about 30 frames in boxes waiting to be refinished. Now that it’s about 3 months away, I’m going to be glued to my desk working on the art. I want to finish the bulk of the work by the end of feburary so I have time to find the furniture and different things that are going into the space. As I mentioned before, I want the show to look like a living room in the 50’s, so its going to be more than just art hanging on a wall. I really can’t wait until it all comes together.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday ♥

Two new polaroids for the Polaroid Project! I’m going to have to put up a actual section on my website eventually for it instead of just a simple page like this.

I think not having a scanner is actually working out for these, I like being able to show them in my hand like that. It shows the size well and how it’s the actual size of a real polaroid! This is going to be on going, so if you want one: get one!

11 x 14 colored pencil on paper

Adam J. Kurtz commissioned me to do a portrait of him and his three roommates as a christmas present for all of them. I really like how it came out, I’ve known adam for a few years now and he basically blogs about his friends all the time so I feel like I know them.

I did this weeks ago, but could not post about it until now because Adam just finished giving it to his friends. What he did was keep the original for himself, obviously I would do the same, and gave prints to his friends. You could go to their house’s website to learn a little more about the guys.

Let me explain the piece a little, the little guy in the top is the logo of the their favorite beer, National Bohemian. The number is the number of their house and of course that house is located in Baltimore. They’re all wearing one big plaid shirt because they each have a lot of plaid in their wardrobes, but I made sure to make each of their neck-holes according to each of their style.

Anyway, I like it and they like it. So successful commission I say. Here is some pictures of it framed and in their house.
