At The Sock Hop

Opening night was an absolute success! The turn out was fabulous and the show went on with out a hitch. Here are photos of the set up thanks to my wonderful friend Paige. I got to meet a bunch of great people, mostly other artists from the art scene here in south florida. Which is great, supporting the local art scene. If you didn’t make it to the opening thats okay! The show will be on display through May 12th and the pieces will be available online soon.

Everything in the space was thrifted, second hand, or loaned from friends. All except the fabric on the walls, which was stretched to appear like wallpaper. I couldn’t have wished for a better space, it came out exactly how I wanted. I couldn’t have done it with out the help of my mother, brother, and best friend. They were there with me for three days setting up the space.

So happy!

New Polaroids!

Two new polaroids, Amber & Johanna.

Two new polaroids for the polaroid project done this week! I really like how they came out, I did the bordered on these with a prisma stick instead of paint, i think they look neater.

A very adorable local artist, Hollie May, interviewed me for her blog this week as well. Click here to read it! Her blog is wonderful and she asked me really good questions.

ALSO one week until At The Sock Hop! There’s going to be tons and tons of home made cupcakes, I’m making an epic 1950s style mix, and encouraging everyone to put their best 1950s look together! you don’t need to though, even if you just pop a bow-tie on a plaid shirt or throw a broach on a dress.. anything goes! See you there!

There’s a little over two weeks left before the opening, and I’m getting very excited. Everything’s pretty much in pieces at the moment, but I have everything I need to put it all together. Actually combining everything will take place in the next few days, I’m glad I have the help of my friends and family, I probably wouldn’t be able to put it all together alone.

Saturday, April 17, 2010 @ 7pm: At The Sock Hop – Danny Brito Solo Show @ PinkGhost

This is one of the first pieces I worked on for the show, it’s probably one of my favorites as well. It’s going to be placed in a ornate vintage frame that I painted a pastel pink. I’m going to try to get some glass cut for it, it might have to be plexi though. Anyway, I’ll be posting various pieces from the show from here on out so look out for that!

Going, going, going

My interview with City Link is now online, the printed version will be available tomorrow.
I’ll post scans of that whenever I get it.

Colleen contacted me about the interview a few weeks ago but I kind of wanted keep really hush hush about it. I think I might have Twittered about it a few times but that’s about it. Seeing this just really gets me excited for “At The Sock Hop,” the passed few months have just been all about the show. Thrifting for goodies, drawing, collecting frames, etc.

I’m going out of town to Sarasota this weekend because I’ll be taking photos at my friend Kelly Gratz’s wedding. Ofcourse I’ll still be working, but it’s going to be a nice break from drawing every day. I’m not complaining I swear! I just haven’t gotten out of town since my birthday in august I believe. It’ll be nice.

I’m going to be ordering some custom pins and maybe some pocket mirrors before I go though, I plan on having them for sale at the show. Also if I have any left overs, at Art Rock which I signed up to be a vendor for.

I really hope everyone can make it out to the opening! I encourage everyone to dress up in their best 1950’s outfits! There will be home made cupcakes and great 1950s style music playing all night.

The Sunshine Show

1″ pins Bear and Bird had made for the artists in the show!

The Sunshine Show was at Bear and Bird last night, the turn out was ridiculous. So many people! There were a bunch of really great pieces in the show. I really liked seeing everyones interpretation of life in Florida. I really hope the pieces in the show go to good homes, I know I was eye balling a few of them. I might go back next weekend to see if they’re still for sale. If you didn’t make it out, go sometime during this month, you can check on the Bear and Bird website for hours.

I got to be in the show with two of my best friends as well, Paige Place and Andrew C. Horton.

A Little over a month until At The Sock Hop! how exciting!

Inspiration for At The Sock Hop

Here’s some inspirational images I have saved for the work I’m doing for At The Sock Hop, I’m no where near as finished with the things I want to do as I should be! I know exactly where I’m going with everything though, I just need some of the finishing touches. I wanted kind of a circular crochet rug, but I’ve only been able to find square or rectangular ones in the thrift stores I go to. Going to have to suck it up and get one of those if I don’t find one soon.

The flyers for the show are printed, they look amazing. I went around fort lauderdale last week leaving them in places like coffee shops, tattoo parlors, and galleries. I’ll be picking up some more in the beginning of next month because I’m already running low.

The Sunshine Show

This is for Bear and Bird’s “The Sunshine Show” a Florida Themed group show. What I wanted to do was kind of depict how my summers in florida usually go, tank tops and sun burns. I added the Florida oranges in the background because Oranges and Florida go hand-in-hand.
